Special Meeting May 30, 2013
The special meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. with all members present. City resident Dan Noss was also in attendance.
Purpose of the meeting was to discuss and decide what process to take to fill the council seat of Jerry Carter.
The Mayor gave a general overview of what the council can do when filling a council seat. The city could hold an election and the person elected would carry out the remainder of the term which is 3.5 years or the city could appoint someone to fill the vacancy until the next general election, the second option would not cost the city any additional expense.
The consensus of the council was to appoint a resident to hold the office until the November 2014 election.
Motion by Carter 2nd by Adamski to make an appointment at this time and hold a special election for that council seat at the next general election in November 2014. Carried
The city will advertise for two weeks, accepting names of interested residents and a short explanation about themselves and why they want to be on the council until 5:00 p.m. June 11, 2013 and will re-convene this meeting on June 13, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at the fire hall meeting room to make an appointment.
