June 4, 2012 - Continuation

The continuation meeting from May 16, 2012 was re-convened at 9:00 a.m. with all members present. 

                Project Assessment Policy The council discussed at length, the Project Assessment Policy and what changes need to be made to it.

                Motion by Carter 2nd by Turner to change the reconstruction costs to $22/foot for new road with curb and gutter and $15/foot for rural road (no curb and gutter).  Overlay will be assessed at 50% of the project and the cost will be based on a 20 foot road bed.  Carried

 

                It was also decided to eliminate the words “updated annually” from the policy. 

                A public hearing has been set for June 20, 2012 at 6:30p.m. at the fire hall meeting room.

 

                Holidays  The Mayor will contact one of the city attorneys to find out if the city has to add the three holidays; President’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Veteran’s Day, to the days already observed by the city.

 

                Utilities on Taxes The council briefly discussed another city’s policy on certifying delinquent utilities to the property taxes.  The Mayor will contact the city attorney to find out how we can add delinquent utilities to the property taxes and bring that information to a future meeting.

 

                Knight Street Ditch  The city has received complaints about water standing in the newly designed ditch along Knight Street.  The council agreed that it was best to meet with the concerned parties along with a couple councilmen, Wendell and Crosby & Sons Const.  to discuss this matter and see what type of solution can be agreed upon.

 

                Fire Depts. Filling Tank There is an old “filling tank” in the ground behind Bermels Store.  Safety concerns have been expressed because the tank is partially uncovered and deteriorating. 

Motion by Carter 2nd by Andres to, for the safety of the community, have this tank filled in as it is no longer used by the fire department. Carried

 

                Veterans Trail The council was reminded that the city needs to keep attending trail meetings and keep active in all the discussions.

 

                Amendment to existing zoning ordinance

                Motion by Turner 2nd by Andres to add to the existing zoning ordinance that the minimum width for all homes is 24 feet.  Carried
