Special Meeting May 18, 2010
The special meeting of the Randall City Council was called to order at 9:00 a.m. with all members present. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss policies for delinquent utilities.
The council discussed at length different options the city may or may not have regarding the collection of delinquent utility bills. They reviewed another city’s policy and were informed that there is a program with the IRS called “Revenue Recapture” but the city would have to start keeping customer social security numbers on file in a secured location. The consensus of the council is that the current policy and anything added to it, needs to be enforced! One member stated “it’s not fair to the rest of the citizens in town that pay on time”!!
The mayor then appointed Jerry Carter to accompany Charley Andres and Jerry Peterschick on the utility board and these three people will also serve as the utility appeal board where a customer can come and appeal the correctness of his or her bill when served with a disconnect notice. Jerry Peterschick will look at the city’s current policy and add information regarding the appeal board, bringing everything to the regular council meeting for review.
