Building permit information

CITY OF RANDALL BUILDING PERMIT REQUIREMENTS:

This is information about building permits and when you need to apply for one.  Permits can be picked up at Randall City Hall at 525 Pacific Avenue or if requested, one can be sent to you.  City Halls phone number is 320-749-2159.

 Planning & Zoning meetings are held once a month at 5:00 p.m. at City Hall on the 1st Monday. City council meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. The building permits must first be approved by the Planning & Zoning committee and then by the City Council.  You may contact the city hall to find out if your permit was approved on Thursday after the regular council meeting.

The fees differ depending on the project.  Building Permit fees up to $20,000 project cost are $25 and everything valued over is .0025 of one percent, ie. The permit fee for a $100,000 home would be $250.00. Project costs include all labor and materials included in the project.

 PERMITS MUST BE APPROVED BY PLANNING & ZONING AND THE CITY COUNCIL BEFORE BUILDING CAN COMMENCE!  VIOLATING THIS POLICY COULD RESULT IN AN ADMINISTRATIVE FINE OF $75.

 

WHEN YOU NEED A BUILDING PERMIT

When you are changing anything that makes the outward appearance of the building look different, ie. Installing a bigger door or window, changing type of siding or type of roofing material.

 Any new construction of any type

 

WHEN YOU DO NOT NEED A BUILDING PERMIT

 Painting a building

 Re-shingling a roof

 Installing new doors & windows as long as you are not changing the size

Changing the skirting around a mobile home/double wide

Pouring a cement slab or sidewalk. However, you will need to contact City Staff to verify that it will not affect any underground utilities. You must also contact Gopher State One-Call to submit a utility locate request

Installing flower gardens, planting trees-Contact Gopher State One-Call

Replacing deck boards or an entire deck as long as you are not changing the size.

If there is something that you will be doing and it is not on either of the lists, please call city hall and ask if you need a permit.

YOU WILL NEED TO KNOW THE NEAREST INTERSECTING STREET AND YOUR TOWNSHIP, RANGE AND SECTION NUMBERS.  THE TOWNSHIP AND RANGE NUMBERS ARE THE SAME FOR THE ENTIRE CITY: TOWNSHIP 130N, RANGE 30W.  THE SECTION NUMBER DEPENDS ON WHAT PART OF THE CITY YOU LIVE IN.
